Vision of Eedu Campus

Estonia's first vertical city where life, work, education, and entertainment meet in one building

How Eedu Was Born

In the early 90s, I traveled across the Atlantic in the footsteps of Columbus. The goal was to understand if and how an economy can function without the leadership of the party central committee and what strange creatures interest and marketing are. I added MBA to my CV. Then life brought me together with curious and enterprising people, with whom we built two companies that are still successful today.

In 2017, I pried myself off the soft chair and joined the EBS team. The more I learned about learning and teaching, the more interesting it became. Searching for an answer to the question of how to make learning an activity whose main goal is not to finish learning, the vision of an education, entrepreneurship, and culture campus was born.

The central idea of the campus is to keep backs flexible and make lifelong learning comfortable, interesting, and habitual. We bring education and entrepreneurship experts and curious and young-at-heart students under one roof.

The campus was named Eedu because it sounded a bit like "idu" (sprout), a bit like "edu" (success), plenty of Estonia and education.

Architecture

Designed by world-class architects

OODI Library Helsinki - ALA Architects

Eedu building is designed by internationally recognized Helsinki architecture firm ALA Architects. ALA Architects is among the most influential architecture firms in the Nordic countries, known for winning international architecture competitions and creating top-level solutions for public buildings.

ALA architects' most renowned project is the Helsinki OODI Central Library, which received the international Public Library of the Year award in 2019. OODI was recognized for its beautiful and clear architectural whole, bold style, people-centered design, and sustainable material choices, which shaped the library into a modern and vibrant heart of the urban space.

Looking at Antti Nousjoki and ALA Architects' work more broadly, a clear principle emerges: this is not architecture for architecture's sake. It is a practical art form that responds to societal changes, opens new possibilities, and invites us to think, act, and live more consciously — both in relation to ourselves and to the urban space.

Eedu is one of the first of its kind in the world – a city center high-rise that consciously combines multiple different uses. Such buildings are rare: most high-rises are built either for living or office spaces, remaining weakly connected to the city. Eedu's goal is the opposite — to be an active and vibrant part of Tallinn's urban environment, not a separate object from it.
